GUPPI ("General Unit Primary Peripheral Interface") is a piece of software designed by FAITH's Project HEAVEN to serve as an interface between a replicant and the machine systems to which they are connected.
GUPPI's character and attitude evolves over time thanks to the Bob's upgrades, he always remains stoic and reserved, injecting attitude and personality through interjection or perfect timing. Automating and monitoring activities is a big part of GUPPI's role for each Bob, and also acting as a kind of personal assistant, especially when it comes to the 'To Do' list.
We Are Legion (We Are Bob)[]
Once free of FAITH's control, Bob quickly begins modifying his GUPPI. His GUPPI version 2 has greatly expanded memory space to potentially develop a personality matrix of it's own, and a VR avatar for the program that looks and sounds like Admiral Ackbar from Star Wars—a humanoid fish out of water from the Mon Calamar race.
"I had to swallow an incipient giggle. I had made Guppy look like Admiral Ackbar from Star Wars-a humanoid fish out of water. The first time he'd talked, I had collapsed in hysterics." (71)

When Linus finds the replicant Henry Roberts having a psychotic break, Henry says that evil fish have been forcing him to do things. In this deranged state, the name GUPPI may have been twisted by Henry’s mind such that he imagined the interface program to be a nefarious school of fish.
Not Till We Are Lost[]
Bill’s GUPPI begins to demonstrate instances of irony or sarcasm from time to time. Bill also allows the AMI to select its own dress code and introduces a training routine to make the process autonomous. Based on some of GUPPI’s wardrobe choices, and the occasional display of sarcasm, Bill begins to suspect that his GUPPI may be self-aware.
