Hal is one of Mario's clones, part of the group who work to establish the Others' range.
Hal’s VR is a cabin with an easy chair, and a glass wall overlooking an evergreen forest on a mountainside over a valley. The mountain never fills with snow, despite the constant snowfall.
Hal visits GL 877 twice, to do reconnaissance of The Others:
- In 2188, Hal arrives several months after Bashful and suffers the same fate. Both Bobs are chased by a small scouting party of Others' ships and their matrix is destroyed by a gamma-ray burst, which triggers their deadman protocol.
- In 2196, Hal returns with a decoy HEAVEN vessel, which successfully survives a gamma-ray attack with improved shielding. Hal exits the system undetected and returns to Bob-controlled space.
